...bridges organisational gaps
Borders are made for crossing, but organisational borders can sometimes
be far more difficult to cross than those between nations. The
obstacles faced are of course factors such as corporate culture,
business culture, information management issues and trust. Strangely
enough, most of us are perfectly willing to let an outside service
provider clean our offices or a construction company to renovate
our entire office building, but when it comes to having an occasional
knowledge worker wander about in our intranet to get a better grasp of
the peculiarities of our corporate technolects or sharing procedural
knowledge in an unofficial capacity, the guard suddenly goes up.
Information, which would be vital to multilingual communication
processes remains hidden, thus preventing new knowledge from coming to
light.
